Laurence Decore Award for Student Leadership (Alberta Scholarships Program)

The Laurence Decore Award for Student Leadership honours Mr. Laurence Decore, former Edmonton mayor and leader of the Alberta Liberal Party. This award recognizes post-secondary students who have demonstrated outstanding dedication and leadership
to fellow students and to their community.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:

  • be a Canadian citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person (visa students are not eligible),
  • be an Alberta resident, and to be considered an Alberta resident one of the following conditions must apply:
    – one parent or legal guardian has maintained permanent residence in Canada for at least twelve (12) consecutive months immediately prior to commencing post-secondary studies and be residing in Alberta, or
    – Alberta is the last place the student has lived for twelve (12) consecutive months immediately prior to commencing post-secondary studies, or
    – the student’s spouse/partner has maintained permanent residence in Alberta for 12 consecutive months prior to the person attending post-secondary.
  • currently be enrolled full-time (minimum 9.0 credit hours) in an undergraduate degree program at the University of Lethbridge,
  • be involved in either student government or student societies, clubs or organizations, or involved in student organizations at the provincial or national level or in non-profit community organizations,
  • have completed a minimum 24.0 credit hours at the University of Lethbridge in the previous Fall and Spring semesters with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Application:
Students must submit a detailed description of their involvement and accomplishments in student government or student societies, clubs or organizations, or student organizations at the provincial or national level or in non-profit community organizations.
A reference that can attest to the student’s experience and accomplishments is required.

Selection:
Recipients are selected by committee.

These can include non-profit community organizations and student organizations at the provincial or national level. Maximum 750 words.
  3. Please provide the name and email address of a person (not a relative) who can serve as a reference for this award. They will be sent an email invitation with a link to complete a questionnaire. Be aware that they will not see the deadline, name or details of the award/scholarship in the email invitation. You must provide them with this information separately when you request them to be your reference. Check the reference tab on your application before the deadline to ensure your referee has submitted their reference on time. Reference questionnaires completed after the award application deadline will not be considered.
