United Empire Loyalists’ Association of Canada (UELAC) - Calgary Branch

The United Empire Loyalists’ Association of Canada is an organization dedicated to enriching the lives of Canadians through knowledge of the past, in particular, the history of the United Empire Loyalists and their contribution to the development of Canada. The Calgary Branch of the Association was formed in 1928 by Lewis Frederick Clarry, K.C.The geographic area of our interest is mainly Southern Alberta.

In addition to perhaps one Canadian in ten having a Loyalist ancestor, many others of Loyalist descent live around the world. Since Alberta became a province in 1905 and major settlement started after and during railroad construction, Loyalist descendants have relocated from the original family settlement areas in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Upper and Lower Canada and other areas of eastern Canada.

Impact

The UELAC mandate includes the understanding of the role and impact of the Loyalists on the development of Canada. With a significant donation from the estate of the late Dr. Evelyn Doreen de Mille, the Calgary Branch would like to promote this mandate to the next generation of full-time and part-time students in History at the University of Lethbridge.
